January 2021 meeting minutes were read to meeting attendees.
II. New Business
Approve meeting minutes for January 2021
Motion to approve minutes was made by Camille Worthington and seconded by Amy Ware.
Motion was approved by unanimous consent.
III. Reports
Fire - Lt. Andy Ward
Notified to lower the flags at half staff because of 500 thousand deaths due to COVID.
Encouraged neighbors to receive their vaccine if they are able to do so.
Free smoke detector installations are still available.
Call 205-595-5801 to schedule an appointment for installation.
Hydrant testing will be coming up soon.
Testing will primarily take place in Mountain Ridge and Ledges of Altamont area of Crestwood South.
Should not disrupt neighbors water flow.
Firefighter training is coming in March.
Spring Cleaning at Station 10
Planting, replacing mulch to improve the outdoor area of the station.
Police - Jessica Burton
No representative was present.
Annie Wright requested that police speed monitoring presence increased during the hours between 5 and 6 o’clock on Crestwood Blvd.
Other neighbors raised concerns about the intersection of 56th Street South and Crestwood Blvd.
India Bailey noted that the Department of Transportation would be the City department to contact about traffic calming issues.
Neighborhood officers will have a follow up to discuss this issue.
Birmingham Library - Vincent Solfronk
Springville Road library is temporarily closed.
All other libraries are open partially through the week and still doing curbside pickup/dropoff.
Hours are available on BPL website.
BPL website has several virtual programs available.
Public Works - Arthur Wilder
Attended but could not participate due to technical difficulties.
CRR - Harold Houston
Not present.
CAB - Liz Murray
Department of Health officials encouraged Birmingham residents to get COVID vaccine if it is available.
Alice Williams discussed Neighborhood Elections.
Elections are tentatively scheduled for March 30th.
In person voting will be available at selected sites and the City is encouraging absentee voting.
Swearing in is tentatively scheduled for May 5th.
No other details available at this time.
NUSA conference will be held virtually this year.
Each neighborhood is allowed to send representatives to the conference.
IV. City Representatives
City Council Representatives
Hunter Williams, Councilor, District 2
Acknowledged issues brought up about Crestwood Blvd.
Encouraged residents to reach out to Birmingham DOT and ALDOT.
Conducted a study with Councilor O’Quinn on finding ways to make Crestwood Blvd more walkable in ways that ALDOT will allow the City to pursue.
Conducted a study with Alabama Power about adding additional lighting to Clairmont Walking Trail.
The total cost would be approximately $120,000.
Vaccines at the Eastwood Walmart will be available in March.
Residents can schedule an appointment on Walmart.com.
Valerie A. Abbott, Councilor, District 3
Computer equipment has been purchased for the real time crime department of the BPD.
$6.2 million in federal funding has been allocated for rental assistance program.
More information on how to apply for the program will soon be available and shared with neighborhood officers.
District 3 town hall meeting will take place virtually on March 23rd at 6:00 PM.
