July 2022 meeting minutes were read to meeting attendees.
Motion to approve minutes was made by Luke Hanson and seconded by Paul Rich.
Motion was approved by unanimous consent.
Presentations
Dr. Klayton Barrows
Crestwood North resident. Recently joined Seale Harris Clinic on St. Vincent's main campus and is currently trying to build a patient panel.

Rudi Quarles - Owner, Crestwood Tavern
Crestwood Tavern is planning to do more community events like public movie showings or makers markets.

Neighborhood Officer Elections - October 18, 2022
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible to run:
Must be resident by May 9, 2022.
Must have attended at least 4 CSNA meetings since Sept 2021.
Must submit Declaration of Candidacy Form to Community Resource Services Division by Sept 6.
Crestwood Community Band
Bingo Fundraiser taking place at Cahaba Brewery on August 25th from 7-9pm.
Requesting a $10 donation to play.
Playing at folk festival

Attorney for the City discussed drug nuisance cases around the City.
Councilor O’Quinn spoke about AirBnb regulation discussions.

Hunter Williams, Councilor, District 2 (Represented by India Bailey)
Ms. Bailey noted ongoing issues with 56th Street and Crestwood Boulevard have been reported.
Hoping service will be provided within the next two weeks.
Annie Wright reported down wires along Crestwood Boulevard.
John Davis asked about the former Hooters building on Crestwood Boulevard, which has become blighted.
Ms. Bailey noted that since it is privately owned there is not much the City can do at this time.
Valerie A. Abbott, Councilor, District 3
Discussed World Games debt and efforts to address it.
Next council meeting, the council is voting on new garbage cans to provide for Birmingham residents and reducing garbage pick up to one day a week instead of two.
City is expected to receive cans by October.
Amy Ware asked if recycling pick up would be increased if trash pick up is decreasing. Councilor Abbott noted that there is no planned increase in recycling pick up.
Noted new AirBnb ordinance in the works for the City.
Council is leaning towards enacting an ordinance that only allows AirBnb owners to rent homes that are their primary residences.
School Board

State Laws - Literacy and Numeracy Act
Addressing performance issues with reading in our state.
Partnership with United Way brought in college students to help City students with reading performance.
Annie Wright asked about encouraging parent engagement.
Ms. Williams discussed various in-person and virtual learning opportunities for students.
K-3 Literacy Town Hall Meeting taking place August 30, 2022 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM at Boutwell Auditorium.
Rudi Quarles asked about efforts to address discipline issues in schools.
Ms. Williams noted the school board's increased efforts to focus on providing mental health services to students.
